  • Behind-the-scenes tour with KMA Curator Stephen Wicks

Aubert Wines was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000. Before building his own winery, Mark Aubert made his wines at Colgin Cellars and the Custom Crush facility. While much of his fruit is sourced, Aubert owns 3.2 acres of vineyard land in Sonoma. This land is the source of their UV wines. Aubert wine is one of the best producers California Chardonnay. They also make Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Prior to starting Aubert wine in 1999, Mark Aubert worked at some of the best wineries in California. He replaced Helen Turley at the Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma and he later replaced Helen Turley for the second time when he became the wine maker for the cult wine Colgin Cellars in Napa. Mark Aubert has also worked as consultant for some of the top California wineries including Sloan, Futo and Bryant Family. Given that resume, discussing the wines might seem somewhat incidental. Without going into a lot of detail, all of these wines were rated 95 and above by the usual suspects. In fact, three of the Chardonnays were barrel sampled by Parker’s The Wine Advocate in the 97 – 100 point range, and the fourth Chardonnay was sampled as 97- 99 points. You get the picture.

How will that match with the food? Jeff Carter, the Executive Chef for Randy Burleson’s entire group of restaurants, will be doing the food preparation. Jeff, former Executive Chef for Dancing Bear Lodge, is a former featured chef for L’Amour du Vin (2012). We know his food is always top notch.

This dinner for up to 14 guests will be held on the wonderful William J Mitchell Terrace at the KMA. Your party will get a chance to see the current featured showings at the museum. Better yet, you will get a personalized tour from Museum Curator Stephen Wicks to explain the details of the art and to answer your questions about it. The tour will be a “Behind-the-Scenes” tour and will also delve into areas not on normal display. So, you will have world class art combined with a world class horizontal of wines from Albert, and world class food from Jeff Carter. What a phenomenal evening!

Eighteen bottles [750 mL] Banfi Italian Wines, three each: 2017 Centine Rosé, 2017 San Angelo Pinot Grigio, 2013 Brunello di Montalcino, 2015 Rosso di Montalcino, 2017 Rosa Regale, NV Maschio Prosecco Brut

Banfi Vintners is the sole U.S. importer of the Mariani family’s internationally renowned wine estates in Italy.  With this lot, you can take home eighteen bottles of these spectacular wines! To start, the 2017 Centine Rosé, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese from hillside vineyards in the Brunello region of Tuscany. A light, bright pink with spice-accented aromas of redcurrant, fresh herbs and flowers. Bright, juicy and dense, offers sweet, candied red berry and orange zest flavors that have early appeal; rated 88 by Antonio Galloni. The Banfi Piemonte 2017 Rosa Regale is sourced from Acqui Terme, Peidmont in Italy. This 100% Brachetto is a sparkling red that offers a festive cranberry color and notes of raspberries and rose petals that graduate to a dry finish. The next three wines all hail from Castello Banfi of Montalcino sourced from the southern hills in Tuscany – the 2017 San Angelo Pinot Grigio is white-gold, notes of pear, peach, anise and honey. The taste is fruity, crisp and refreshing. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese with an intense ruby red. Ethereal on the nose with violet, vanilla and a hint of licorice; full-bodied, velvety with traces of spice. High marks from critics include: Robert Parker – 92, Wine Spectator – 91, and James Suckling – 95. The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino is also 100% Sangiovese and a beautiful ruby red. Notes of fresh fruit, violet and cherry with surprising length. Perfect with aged cheeses! Finally, the NV Maschio Prosecco Brut is characterized by its fruit forward taste of both peach and almond flavors. With this lot, you can drink in the winemaking mastery that comes from the historical and well-established wineries that belong the Banfi family. Better yet, serve these at your next dinner party!

LIVE LOT 3

One double magnum [3L] Vineyard 7 & 8 2012 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley; special edition with etching (1 of 6)

Two-time featured vintner Wesley Steffens, of Vineyard 7 & 8, has offered up a unimaginably special edition double magnum for L’Amour du Vin this year! The bottle bears an etching of a flower painting done by Wes’ mother Launny Steffens, who some LDV patrons may remember meeting at LDV 2017. The painting was photographed by Wes’ sister and sent to the winery’s top etching artist, all as a surprise for Launny. They only had 6 made – and Wes has given one to LDV! Wow! Wow!

The wine inside the bottle is quite special as well. Crafted by Wes, assistant winemaker, along side Martha McClellan, the result scored 97 points from Robert Parker: the deep garnet-purple colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a rock-star nose of chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis, blackberry pie and baking spices with touches of roses, chargrill, pencil lead and cigar box plus a waft of tapenade. Very firm—built like a brick house—full and muscular with ripe, grainy tannins and great freshness, it finishes long and earthy. Drink now or cellar until 2042.

What a special, amazing gift from Wes and the Steffens Family! A unique bottle unlike anyelse in your collection – don’t miss this opportunity to make it yours!

LIVE LOT 4

A 24-bottle [750ml] Vertical Horizontal of Kosta Browne Pinot Noir (2012 – 2015)

  • Four-Year vertical Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2012 – 2015
  • Four-Year vertical Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Sant Lucia Highlands 2012 – 2015
  • Four-Year vertical Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2012 – 2015
  • Four-Year vertical Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Gaps Crown Vineyard Sonoma Coast 2012 – 2015
  • Four-Year vertical Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch Vineyard Russian River Valley 2012– 2015
  • Four-Year vertical Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Koplen Vineyard Russian River Valley 2012 – 2015

Most of you know the story of Kosta Browne’s origins dating back to 1997 when Dan Kosta and Michael Browne worked in the same restaurant in Santa Rosa. They saved from their tips the nights they worked together, and with the help of one of the chefs, they had enough to buy some equipment and, more importantly, a half ton of Pinot Noir grapes from the Russian River Valley. They poured most of the first barrel to VIP customers at the restaurant. After the 2000 wine was made, Dan and Michael formed a partnership with Chris Costello and his family. The rest is history. Kosta Browne became the flagship for California Pinot Noir as that grape gained a huge following, particularly after the 2004 movie Sideways. Kosta Browne became almost a cult wine which was virtually impossible to find unless you were on their long mailing list. Kosta Browne’s popularity was enhanced by Wine Spectator’s designation of the 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir as the Number One Wine of The Year in the 2011 Top 100 Listing. The 2007 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was ranked Number 4 in the 2009 Top 100, and the 2008 Russian River Valley was Number 12 in the 2010 Top 100. You get the idea.

Many of you will also remember the 2014 L’Amour du Vin. Kosta Browne, along with Realm (Juan Mercado’s now hugely popular label) and CIRQ (Michael Browne’s new brand) paired up with the mesmerizing cuisine of Patrick O’Connell from the Inn at Little Washington. What a party that was! Michael brought some of his best single vineyards, along with some of the appellation wines. Michael (and Juan) made a lot of friends in Knoxville that night. Sadly, nothing lasts forever. Michael, Dan and the partners ultimately sold Kosta Browne, through a series of transactions. It is now owned by Duckhorn. Don’t worry about the brand or the quality, the Duckhorn people know how to make top notch wine and how to manage and grow a premium brand like Kosta Browne.

The magic is that this entire vertical horizontal was produced while Michael Browne was still totally in control of all winemaking decisions and blending. This lot demonstrates what he can do when he blends wines from multiple vineyards within an AVA into an appellation wine – Russian River Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands, and Sonoma Coast. It also shows his incredible prowess with single vineyard designate wines – Gaps Crown, Keefer Ranch and Koplen. Finally, it shows the mind-bobbling consistency he was able to produce across the vintages. All of the bottles are highly-rated by the various pundits – Parker, Wine Spectator, Stephen Tanzer, and their friends. You might be able to assemble a lot like this but there is no single store or location where you can go to buy it. It would take phenomenal persistence and dedication to run them down and secure them, not to mention the shipping issues. So, this lot is a tribute to our great friend Michael Browne and his superb winemaking prowess. In a year or two, it will be virtually impossible to do this again. If you like Pinot Noir, we know you will be bidding!

The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet on Monte Bello Ridge in unincorporated Santa Clara County in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, south of Los Altos, California and west of Cupertino, California. It is always an age-worthy wine that receives phenomenal scores from the reviewers. Take the 2015 Monte Bello, for instance. LIVE LOT 9

One 5L CIRQ 2013 Bootlegger’s Hill Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley; etched with the 2019 LDV Featured Work by artist Andrew Erdos

Michael Browne’s tradition of teaming up with the L’Amour du Vin featured artist began in 2014 when he was LDV Featured Vintner. Each year since he has presented a unique and spectacular piece which combines the best of wine with the best of art. In the past he has donated a large format of his fabulous Pinot Noirs with the art work of Richard Jolley, Andy Saftel, Tomory Dodge, Jered Sprecher, and now Andrew Erdos. These etched large formats beautifully create a wonderful retrospective of L’Amour du Vin through the years. There are truly collector’s items!

This particular bottle with a detail of the Erdo’s sculpture “Lone Jade Mountain” was created with a “portrait style etching” technique, whereby the bottle artist etched away an area of the bottle and used a high-level canvas print of the image to bring to the life the vibrance and intricate detail of the work itself. It’s a stunner!

This year’s work is etched onto a 5L bottle of CIRQ 2013 Bootlegger’s Hill Pinot Noir – a thrilling expression of delicate, charming, understated elegance, this captures moderately ripe plum and blueberry flavors with aromatic rose petal aromas. Most impressive is the focus and delivery of flavor, which glides along, touching sweet spots and lingering. Rated 95 by James Laube. Enjoy now with a large party of family and friends or cellar until 2022. This offering represents the trifecta of a fabulous wine, in a spectacular piece of art, in a large and unusual format. We are indebted to Michael Browne for his support of L’Amour du Vin through the years. If you are looking for a way to remember this year’s event, or looking for a great bottle of wine, or looking for a great work of art – this lot is for you!

LIVE LOT 11

Private Library and Current Release Tasting for 16 with Arietta Vintner Fritz Hatton in the home of the winning bidder; PLUS, three double magnums [3L], one each: 2014 H Block Red Blend, Hudson Vineyards; 2016 Red Quartet; 2017 On the White Keys (engraved).

It is impossible not to have fun with Arietta Owner Fritz Hatton! His passion and enthusiasm for wine, food, music, and life are contagious – so expect an entertaining, fun, and delicious tasting experience held in your own home (yes, here in Knoxville!) led by Fritz who will bring a case of current releases and library wines for what will surely be an evening to remember.

Arietta, one of Napa’s top producers of Bordeaux-style blended wines, sources from several highly-acclaimed vineyards in the cooler region of Napa Valley. Fritz Hatton and his wife Caren founded Arietta Wine in 1996 alongside former Arietta winemaker John Kongsgaard. Today Andy Erickson, one of the most accomplished winemakers in Napa Valley, works to perfect each vintage. Arietta wines consistently score big with oenophiles and critics alike. But don’t take our word for it – Fritz has sent three magnums for the winning bidder to take home now!

The 2014 H Block is a red defined by Arietta’s Cabernet Franc from Hudson Vineyards in Los Carneros, which blends beautifully with a Merlot grape grown on a separate part of the acreage. Both are simultaneously harvested, co-fermented and then aged for twenty months in new French oak barrels. Wine Advocate gave the bottle a 94+ rating: “a young, promising and youthful wine – elegance and power are combined in a deep ruby/purple wine with notes of forest floor, white flowers, blueberry, raspberry and firm tannin, but it is well-integrated and the wine medium to full-bodied with an almost ethereal delicacy when it moves across the palate.” The 2016 Red Quartet is inspired by the four Bordeaux varietals that make up this exceptional bottle. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot and all the grapes are sourced from the three-acre vineyard in Coombsville planted in 2003 by renowned David Abreu. Because of its continued success, Arietta established the acreage as the dedicated foundation for this particular wine in 2009. Rated 92 by James Suckling, the wine is an immediate crowd-pleaser but also has the potential to age beautifully. A sip possesses unforgettable notes of black and red currants, black plums, mulberries and Indian spices with aromas of new leather and tobacco allowing a full-bodied and long spicy finish. Lastly, the most recent addition to the Arietta’s wine selection is a white blend, On The White Keys. This lot includes a 2017 bottle — a blend of 84% Sauvignon Blanc and 16% Semillon — and is the winery’s first and only white wine to date. Fruity, bright and rich with a smooth honey undertone this wine is aged in new French, neutral French and stainless steel barrels for 12 months. Again another bottle that is prime for bottle aging and will not disappoint. This amazing trio of wines PLUS in-your-own-home private tasting experience with the winery owner is a MUST-HAVE. Bid! Mutually agreeable date to be scheduled by winning bidder and Fritz Hatton; expires 3/2/2020.

LIVE LOT 14

Dinner and private tour for 3 couples at Ridge Vineyard’s Monte Bello winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains, PLUS six magnums [1.5L] Ridge Vineyards 2017 Single Vineyard Zinfandel, one for each couple: Geyserville and Lytton Springs.

This year’s featured winery, Ridge Vineyards’ extensive history began in 1885 when Osea Perrone purchased 180-acres of land near Monte Bello Ridge and planted vineyards. In 1892, he released the winery’s first vintage of wine under the Monte Bello Winery name. From there, the estate continued to grow and expand, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. In 1964 they released their first Zinfandel – later introducing the first Lytton Springs vintage in 1972. By 1991, Lytton Springs had officially been added to the Ridge estate because of its excellent location, climate, and soils that consistently produced classic, balanced Zinfandel wines.

This special lot is from the LDV Featured Winery of this year, whose wines you’ll enjoy all weekend! First, an experience like no other – dinner and private tour for 3 couples at Ridge Vineyard’s famed Monte Bello winery. Nestled high up in the northern reaches of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and surrounded by historic vineyards, our the Estate offers guests an unparalleled opportunity to experience the winery’s exceptional single-vineyard wines. In addition, six spectacular magnums! Two for each couple of the newest releases of Geyserville Proprietary Red and Lytton Springs Zinfandel. The 2017 Geyserville earned 93-95 from Wine Advocate: revealed immense promise. Despite having been in barrel for a mere six months, it’s already offering up complex aromas of raspberries, blackberries and exotic spice. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, pure and succulent, with superb concentration, a lovely line of ripe acidity and a chalky, fine-grained finish. The wine attained 14.7% alcohol, and [Eric Baugher, Monte Bello winemaker here with us tonight!] believes it will be one of the best renditions of Geyserville in a decade. Andrew Erdos, Lone Jade Mountain, 2018. Reclaimed industrial safety glass, mirror, and LED light, 26 x 24 x 22

Internationally recognized sculptor Andrew Erdos often combines glass with light, video, and sound to construct otherworldly multi-media environments inspired by popular culture, genetic engineering, and information overload.  In Lone Jade Mountain, a glass hood of two-way mirror encases stacked and fused shards of frosted plate glass that appear to rise up into space out of glowing bits of debris. LED lights mounted in a specially wired pedestal shine through the landscape floor to create a visually stunning but uncertain interplay of highlights, gridded patterns, rugged contours, and infinite reflections. While evoking nature’s grandeur, the artist’s otherworldly creation suggests a post-industrial landscape transformed and contained by forces of The Digital Age.

The youngest recipient of the Rakow Commission of the Corning Museum of Glass, Erdos’ work has been exhibited worldwide and throughout the United States.  His work can be found in the permanent collections of the New Britain Museum of American Art; the Toledo Museum of Art; the Knoxville Museum of Art; the Corning Museum of Glass; the 21c Museum in Durham, and the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison. Erdos lives and works in New York City.

KMA curatorial team will transport and install the sculpture at a location of the winning bidder’s choosing within 20 miles of the museum.

Switchback Ridge Winemaker Dinner for up to 18 People at Fabulous Craiglen on May 18, 2019

  • Switchback Ridge Winemaker dinner with Kelly Peterson-Holmes, Founding/Managing Partner
  • Dinner for up to 18 people to be held at the storied Craiglen estate on May 18, 2019
  • Dinner will be prepared by Jeff Carter, Executive Chef, Burleson Brands restaurants
  • Switchback Ridge 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Calistoga
  • Switchback Ridge 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, Calistoga
  • Switchback Ridge 2015 Merlot, Napa Valley, Calistoga
  • Switchback Ridge 2014 Petite Sirah, Napa Valley, Calistoga
  • Switchback Ridge 2012 Old Vine Petite Sirah, Napa Valley, Calistoga
  • Champagne to kick things off

Switchback Ridge produces handcrafted estate wines sourced from the Peterson Family Ranch in Calistoga. For those of you unfamiliar with Switchback Ridge, they produce three varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Sirah. The Petersons celebrated their 100th Anniversary of owning the ranch a few years back. During Prohibition and later, it was operated as a fruit and vegetable farm. In the 1990s plum trees gave way to vines. In 1999, Kelly Peterson and her father John Peterson produced the first vintage of Switchback Ridge wines with the help of family friend, Robert Foley as winemaker. You will remember that it was Robert Foley who helped Pride Mountain develop a huge reputation for Cabernets and Merlots in the early 1990s. He remains the winemaker today. In fact, Bob also purchases about half of their grapes each year for his own wines. If the property was under a different ownership, their historical Petite Sirah old block would most likely be ripped out and planted to a varietal that fetches more money in the valley – Cabernet Sauvignon. Their old Petite Sirah block (which also includes other mixed black varietals) is now over 60 years old. Lucky for us!

The amiable Kelly Peterson-Holmes is coming to Knoxville to personally host this amazing dinner on May 18, 2019. She is bringing with her the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2015 Merlot, and the 2014 Petite Sirah. She will also be presenting the library wines 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Old Vine Petite Sirah. Of these, only the 2005 Cabernet and the 2014 Petite Sirah have been rated – and those with 95 and 94 points respectively. Whenever Kelly’s wines are rated, they almost always receive mid-90-point ratings. The winery’s reputation was built on the amazing Petite Sirah, a huge wine that stains your teeth. Speaking of that, you simply must try the Old Vine Petite Sirah. Kelly calls this “The Black Wine.” Only 71 cases are made, 8 of which are magnums. It simply will blow your mind!

Your party will begin with Champagne as the guests assemble to start off the festive occasion and to lubricate the conversation. The great cuisine of chef Jeff Carter, Executive Chef for all of Randy Burleson’s restaurants will pair with these amazing wines from Switchback Ridge. You will remember that Jeff was featured chef for L’Amour du Vin in 2012 when Leslie Rudd brought his great wines to the event.

So, you have wonderful wines and outstanding cuisine being hosted by a terrific wine personality. The only other part of the equation is the backdrop for the dinner. Your event will be hosted in historic Craiglen, the magnificent Italian villa designed by Architect Charles Barber in the mid-1920’s for John Craig. At one time, Craigland drive was the front yard for the estate. Barber and Craig modeled the interior layout and details after Italy’s 14th-century Palazzo Davanzati, today a major tourist attraction in Florence. The current owners, or members of their family, will co-host the event with Kelly.

Amazing wines presented by their proprietor, wonderful cuisine from Jeff Carter and his staff, and an exotic venue for the exclusive event. The only thing missing is you!

  • Dinner will be prepared by the staff of Bistro by the Tracks

One of the oldest and most historically significant vineyard owners and wine producers in Northern California is the large Martinelli family that cultivates over 350 acres. Remarkably, 90% or more of their entire production is sold off to other wineries as the production of their Martinelli wines tends to be small, ranging from fewer than 100 cases to 500 – 600+. Since 1896, five generations of the family have worked together producing apples and wine in Sonoma County. Martinelli makes lots of great Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah and Zinfandel. In fact, a complete horizontal of all of the Martinelli offerings will include 28 different varietal – single vineyard combinations. Many of you might remember back to the 2010 L’Amour du Vin when Regina Martinelli introduced us to the wonderful world of Martinelli wines paired with the excellent cuisine of New York City’s chef Bill Telepan. Unfortunately, Bill’s eponymous restaurant has closed. But fear not, his current gig is Executive Chef at Oceana on 49th Street just west of Rockefeller Center. He is getting rave reviews. But, that’s a different story for a different day. The wines in this 28-bottle horizontal received excellent scores from Parker’s The Wine Advocate. They ranged from 93 to 98+ (Jackass Hill Zinfandel), with an average of a solid 95 points. Let’s face it, the Martinellis make amazing juice.

The food will be prepared by the outstanding staff at Bistro by the Tracks. Chef Danny Wilhoit and his group will do your festivities proud. For those of you who weren’t there on Valentine’s Day with your sweetie, you missed wonderful food. The special menu included a few things based on the current menu but it had a lot of creative touches, as well. The Chateaubriand with an Espagnole Sauce was impeccable. You know Danny will give your dinner the same attention to detail. All that is missing is your friends (dinner for 12) and a negotiated date. This party belongs in your home. All you have to do is buy it!

  • Dinner for up to 20 people to be held at the residence of Jeannie Bennett
  • Dinner will be prepared by chef Jeff Carter, Executive Chef, for the Burleson Brands Restaurants

Arnot-Roberts was founded in 2001 in Healdsburg, California by childhood friends Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts. Duncan and Nathan grew up in the midst of vineyards and winemakers in the Napa Valley. Each took an interest in the wine industry, with Nathan following his father’s lead as a cooper, and Duncan pursuing winemaking in renowned wineries in Napa and Sonoma. The focus of this two-person operation is on small lot, single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, as well as several other varieties uncommon in Northern Californian vineyards. While none of these bottles have been specifically reviewed by the usual pundits, the vintages that have been reviewed consistently receive ratings in the 91 – 96 point range. Therefore, you know that the wines are superlative.

How will that match with the food? Jeff Carter, the Executive Chef for Randy Burleson’s entire group of restaurants, will be doing the food preparation. Jeff, former Executive Chef for Dancing Bear Lodge, is a former featured chef for L’Amour du Vin (2012). His cuisine is both inventive and very creative. We know that the food is in very capable hands. Finally, the venue for the dinner is the home of Jeannie Bennett. Jeannie is the owner/proprietor of Bennett Gallery. You know it is elegant and you know that Jeannie will be an extremely gracious host for your party. When you put that together with Jeff Carter’s food and fabulous Arnot-Roberts wine, what more could you ask for? “This amazing lot can be yours, if the Price is Right.” (With apologies to Bill Cullen, et al.)

One jeroboam [3L] Eisele Vineyard Estate 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Eisele Vineyard, Napa Valley in wooden box

First planted to vines in the 1880s, Eisele Vineyard sits in the northeast Napa Valley, just east of Calistoga at the base of the Palisades Mountain range and has been principally dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon for the last fifty years. Beginning with the inaugural release bearing the Eisele name in 1971, this iconic vineyard has received consistent recognition for possessing one of the great terroirs of Napa Valley. The wines invariably express the exceptional depth, elegance and longevity which are hallmarks of the vineyard, which to some wine enthusiasts may be more familiar by its previous name Araujo Estate (changed in 2013). This 2015 Cab is a showstopper – a perfect 100 points from Robert Parker: medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon charges from the gate with exuberant red and black cherries notes, black currants and mulberries with a beautiful roses and lavender perfume, plus hints of sandalwood and cinnamon stick. Full-bodied, concentrated and downright explosive in the mouth, it is still wearing loads of gorgeous puppy-fat fruit flavors, offering suggestions of the complex, multilayered blockbuster that it will emerge into. The structure deserves its own mention: wonderful, seamless freshness and oh-so-fine, pixelated tannins, with an extraordinary persistence of fruit and mineral nuances. Wow. Ready to drink now or cellar through 2049. The winery’s small production limits the number of events they can support – so don’t miss what could be a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take home this Parker Perfect beauty!

Dinner for 10 paired with Château Mouton-Rothschild prepared by Chef Jeffery DeAlejandro

With the celebrated 1986 Mouton-Rothschild as the centerpiece, Chef Jeffrey DeAlejandro, of beloved Knoxville favorite Oli Bea, will serve a private, Bordeaux-inspired dinner for up to 10 guests in your own home. Assisting him will be Connor Coffey, who will conduct a pre-dinner Champagne tasting and will select additional wines to accompany the multi-course dinner.  This dinner promises to be a memorable, full immersion experience into the luxurious world of French gastronomy!

The spectacular 1986 Mouton-Rothschild scored a perfect 100 points from Robert Parker, “it has a powerful and intense bouquet as always: exemplary graphite and cedar scents, a touch of black pepper and incense. It seems to unfurl in the glass, like a motor revving its engine. The palate is beautifully balanced with its trademark firm tannic structure, a Mouton-Rothschild with backbone and masculinity. Layers of black fruit intermingling with mint and graphite, a hint of licorice emanating from the Merlot, gently fanning out and my God, it is incredibly long…. this is serious, aristocratic Mouton, a true vin de garde and yes, I do think drinkers will have to wait until it reaches its true peak. Sometimes that’s just the way it is.” Lucky for you – this wine is ready!

  • One (750ml) bottle Biale 2013 “Basic Black” Proprietary Red Wine, Sonoma County

Robert Biale Vineyards has become a revered standard of heritage Vineyard Zinfandel and Petite Sirah in Napa Valley. Napa natives, school chums, and winery Founders, Bob Biale and Dave Pramuk, cherish the tradition of historic old vines (some dating to the 1880’s!) and prize the small quantity of concentrated and intense fruit that they produce. Among the winery’s portfolio of 20 wines that are crafted by winemaker Tres Goetting, Black Chicken Zinfandel is the flagship – and has become a benchmark for the varietal. It all started in the 1940’s when 14-year-old Aldo Biale helped his mother to make ends meet by selling to insider Napans – along with eggs and produce -some of the family’s homemade Zinfandel. Over the old “party line” phone system, the code words “a Black Chicken” signified a jug of bootleg wine… and kept nosy neighbors and the authorities from finding out about Aldo’s underground Zinfandel operation!

Well, Randy Burleson found out about them and Biale has become his favorite go to wine. Not only do you find Biale wines on the wine lists of his restaurants, he keeps a nice stash for himself hidden away from covetous eyes. But fear not, Aubrey Jaye, Randy’s and Melissa’s precious daughter has smuggled a case of this wonderful nectar out of the hidey hole and donated it to L’Amour du Vin. Lucky us! This magnificent case of Biale contains a ten-bottle horizontal – half of the different wines produced by winery. It also contains an additional vintage of the two blends in the lot.

These bottles received accolades and ratings in the lo- to mid-90s from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, James Suckling, and Wine Enthusiast. That’s a level of consistency not often achieved. So, this juice belongs in every cellar. But shhh, it’s a secret. We need to get this lot auctioned off before Randy finds out that Aubrey Jaye purloined it from his stash. Let’s show Aubrey Jaye how much we appreciate it!
